The Applied Arts Magazine Awards 2017 winning single, Seafoam, is part of a Limited Edition/Gallery series. The Seafoam series was shot in various places on the Oregon coast, near the Siuslaw National Forest.
Sea foam, ocean foam, beach foam, or spume is created by the agitation of seawater when it contains higher concentrations of dissolved organic matter including proteins, lignins, and lipids derived from sources such as the offshore breakdown of algal blooms. Sea foam is usually an indication of a productive ocean ecosystem.
During rough sea conditions, the sea foam is violently pushed against the Oregon rocky shore and explodes in all directions. Getting very close to the water, where the waves are crashing, enabled us to capture these images. You obviously get soaked wet and need to protect your gear with a waterproof camera case as seawater is very damaging, if not fatal, to photography equipment.
