I was especially honored when Applied Arts Magazine offered to feature me in their 30th anniversary issue in recognition of my award winning experience. The full article was featured in their March/April issue.
Applied Arts Magazine has printed 17 of my images over the past 4 years (now 18 images over 5 years with the 2016 winning entry).

IN 2009, I DECIDED TO go back to school and study something I was passionate about: photography. While in school, I had heard of the very competitive photography contests at Applied Arts but thought they were out of my league at the time. I graduated in December 2011 from the Commercial Photography program at Montreal’s Dawson College with the Patron’s Award for Outstanding Performance in Photography and the highest-scored portfolio. It was only then I thought I should enter the Applied Arts Student Awards.
After winning RODEO 4 (the CAPIC 2012 student contest) following graduation, I submitted two series of three images and one single image from my graduation portfolio to the Student Awards. It was very exciting to receive a confirmation that my three entries had won. Then winning at the International Photography Awards and the International Color Awards, and getting a feature in Canadian Art, added to the excitement. All of a sudden, contests became a little addictive.
In 2013, I entered the Applied Arts Photography contest in the Young Blood category and won with the highest score. I was also a top 10 finalist for an AACE Award that year and had a full article published in the July/August 2013 edition of the magazine. In 2014 and 2015, my Young Blood entries won again and I was a finalist for the new Young AACE Award in 2015.
Applied Arts has printed 17 of my images in four years. Obviously, this feat will not be repeated forever. But I’ll keep pushing to have the honour to be featured again among the best photographers in the country, such as Leda & St-Jacques, Tyler Gray, Chris Gordaneer and Peter Leverman, just to name a few favourites. Thanks for pushing me to always excel, Applied Arts. You are a visual mentor!
